Well, have been very lax about keeping this up to date.
Still no sign of the annual seedlings, or the second lot I tried under the Magnolia. This patch is rife with roots, so will need very careful under planting – I’m thinking geraniums, or possibly aquelegias.
The patio is now completely taken over by pots – have bought and potted up mini oregano and marjoram, a big rosemary, potted up the toms (all but one, which I am giving to Heppie), and a couple of chilli plants plus a pepper plant. We’ll see, could be too late in the year for those to fruit, though if the weather is as good as we are told…
Also have climbing beans in a large pot with our compost at the bottom, supported by our own bamboo canes. Two squash planted up with our compost and the good peat free stuff, and another lot of carrots sown, plus some Lollo Rosso in plugs to hopefully transplant when I have moved the rest of the Phormium. Which is going to flower this year, so may leave it to do its thing? Not sure, is making a mess of that corner of patio with it’s spread…
Have bought cheaper peat free and planted up the sweet peas (very late, but should flower eventually?), the annual plugs and still have to do the rest of the squash plants – and get the butternut plugs hardened off. Oh, and planted up the zinnias in a small pot in the cheap compost…
Have been reading up and realising that need to be far more patient with cuttings, re time to root – so may have jumped the gun on the hebes and wrecked their chances… Hope not! Still no jpy on Fuschia cuttings, need to ask Andy.
Also had a go at the are behind the pergoal – took out what I hope will prove to be a lone surviving astrantia from the ones I put back there a couple of years ago, and bunged in a couple of Hostas (they were getting eaten in the pots anyway) and moved a couple of ferns to where they could do some more good and get some admiration. Also tried the choisya ternata ‘Aztec Pearl’ in the gap in front of the ‘Sun King’ in the hope that it might thrive a little more and do a job too. Still stuck as to where to put the other half of the Phormium (the half that isn’t going to the harage bed). Also wanting to move the Weigla from the silly little corner bed where it never gets seen by anyone very much. Maybe put the hosts there instead? At least there is plenty of grit!!
